Jane Ussher (MNZM), is one of New Zealand’s most regarded portrait photographers and was invited by the Antarctic Heritage Trust to document the huts that served as expedition bases for Captain Robert Falcon Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton. Jane was given rare and privileged access to photograph the most intimate details of these well preserved historical sites.
‘Still Life – Inside the Antarctic Huts of Scott and Shackleton’, written by Nigel Watson, Executive Director of The Trust, is designed as an evocative and engaging showcase for this stunning collection of photography. The overall colour palette is kept neutral which enhances the content and we included large gatefold pages that give context to the smaller detailed shots within each hut. The cover was screen printed on several coarse fabrics to illustrate the weathered textures of the internal imagery. ‘Still Life’ was launched in New Zealand by the Prime Minister John Key.
